Biography
Born in Montreal, cellist Julie Hereish joined the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Cello in 2019, following her tenure in the same position with the Québec Symphony Orchestra.
An active chamber musician, Julie has appeared at festivals across North America, including the Sweetwater Music Festival, Rosebud Chamber Music Festival, Festival Bach de Montréal, and the Rockport Music Festival. She has also performed as a guest artist with the ARC Ensemble of the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Julie has appeared with Les Violons du Roy in Québec City and on tours throughout Europe and North America, and has performed with leading Canadian ensembles including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Canadian Opera Company. As a chamber musician, she has toured with Debut Atlantic and Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, performing as a member of Duo Arietis, Trio Lajoie, and The New Cohort.
In collaboration with actor Pierre Mayer, Julie co-created Charlot et Mlle Cello, a theatrical concert experience for young audiences inspired by Charlie Chaplin’s iconic character. The production has been presented in a symphonic version with the Québec Symphony Orchestra, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
Based in Edmonton, Julie is a member of the High Level Trio and the Garneau String Quartet, and serves as Co-Director of the Chamber Music Academy at the Winspear Centre.
